Fahri was the Founder, Director, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Qtera Corporation, founded in September 1998. Qtera quickly became the leading provider of ultra-long-haul photonic networking solutions for the Optical Internet and was acquired in January 2000 by Nortel Networks for $3.25 billion.
Before founding Qtera, Fahri was with Siemens, where as a member of an executive team, he helped establish and manage the company's Optical Networks business unit in North America, which was later spun-off as Optisphere Networks in April 2000. Prior to joining Siemens, Fahri led Pirelli's pioneering activities in the optical amplifier and Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) markets, including the introduction of the first terrestrial WDM system and the first multi-channel, bi-directional optical amplifiers in North America. Pirelli WDM business unit system was was later acquired by Cisco Systems in March 2000 for $2.15 billion. Fahri holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology and holds five patents in the field of fiber optics and optical communications.
Wade Woodson
Managing Director, Sigma PartnersWade joined Sigma in 1987 and became a general partner in 1990. He has been helping startup technology companies become valuable enterprises for more than twenty years. In that period, he has developed experience with a broad range of technology segments ranging from semiconductors to communications services to enterprise software. In 1993, he made the venture industry's first investment in the Internet. In the course of his venture career, Wade has been through many of the events and decisions, both pleasant and unpleasant, that entrepreneurs must confront to be successful.
Wade has a background in electrical engineering and law. For four years prior to joining Sigma, he was in the technology and emerging companies departments of the Cooley Godward law firm.
Wade holds an undergraduate degree from Stanford University in electrical engineering, a law degree from Harvard Law School and an M.B.A. from the University of California Haas School of Business. While at Stanford, Woodson was named the Outstanding Senior in Engineering, was a Terman Scholar and was elected to the Tau Beta Pi and Phi Beta Kappa honorary societies.
Todd Dagres
General Partner, Spark CapitalTodd Dagres is a founder and General Partner of Spark Capital. Mr. Dagres has led Spark's investments in Menara Networks, Verivue, Covestor, Kateeva and Intune Networks. Mr. Dagres was previously a General Partner and Executive Committee Member at Battery Ventures, where his investments generated profits of over $1.1 billion to Battery Limited Partners.
At Battery, Mr. Dagres led the Communications Investment practice while focusing on the Media, Entertainment and Communications Industries. Some of his investments at Battery include: Akamai Technologies (NASDAQ:AKAM), Qtera (acquired by Nortel Networks), XCOM (acquired by Level 3 Communications), Redstone (acquired by Siemens), River Delta Networks (acquired by Motorola), Broadbus Technologies (acquired by Motorola), Arbor Networks and Cedar Point Communications. Mr. Dagres holds an MBA from Boston University and a BS in Psychology from Trinity College, Hartford CT.
Fred Leonberger
Fred Leonberger is the Principal of EOvation Technologies LLC, a technology and business advisory firm. He serves on the Board of Directors and/or Advisors for a number of photonics companies, and is a Senior Advisor at the MIT Center for Integrated Photonic Systems (CIPS).
Dr. Leonberger previously served as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of JDS Uniphase (JDSU), a leading optical components supplier. He was also a co-founder and General Manager of UTP, an optical modulator company, and has held management positions at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and United Technologies Research Center. He received a BSE from the University of Michigan and a SM and PhD from MIT.
